Midrange Frequencies

Midrange Frequencies

The midrange frequencies, also referred to as the midrange, is typically the frequency range between 300Hz and 5,000Hz. This is the range where the majority of audio content is in most music, movies and TV shows. Audiophiles, home theater fans and speaker aficionados often take notice of performance at the low frequencies (bass) and the high frequencies when assessing loudspeaker performance, but the midrange is where 80% of all sound occurs for music and home theater. Reproduction of the midrange frequencies should sound natural and uncolored with excellent detail while avoiding being too forward or recessed or sounding excessively bright or dull. If a speaker’s midrange output isn’t clear, spoken dialogue and musical vocals will be unnatural or rendered inaudible so it's of critical importance to nearly every piece of music and home theater audio content.
